Knowledge Management and Society
Our editorial for the month of February discussed the subject of knowledge management. Although the idea of managing knowledge at first seems relatively simple, in practice it is difficult to implement given the complexity of knowledge, the actors and the factors in play. Strong resistance to self-knowledge exists at both the individual and collective levels. Raising awareness of what we do and what we create with our knowledge seems to be a difficult goal to achieve. Knowledge management is a new effort to bring us closer to a more rational society. http://educoas.org/portal/en/tema/editorial2005/feb05.aspx?culture=en&navid=36 Dr. Brian Stevenson joined the OAS this past January as Executive Secretary for Integral Development. He previously served as Associate Vice President of International Affairs of the University of Alberta in Canada and earlier served as a high level government official. He has authored and co-edited several books including Canada, Latin America and the New Internationalism: A Foreign Policy Analysis, 1968-1990 (McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2000); Relating to the Powerful One: How Canada and Mexico View the USA (McGill-Queen’s University Press, forthcoming); Canadian Foreign Policy: Theoretical Debates (in Spanish, ITAM North American Policy Group); Interpretations of Contemporary Quebec (in Spanish, Editorial Porrua); and, Regionalism and Power: The Western Hemisphere and the Limits of Realism (in Spanish, CIDE & Editorial Porrua.). He is also the author of several articles in Spanish and English on Canadian politics, foreign policy, Canada-Mexico relations, Canadian security in Latin America, and the relation between the Organization of American States (OAS) and Canada. Dr. Stevenson obtained his B.A. (Honours) and M.A. at the University of Victoria and his Ph.D. at Queen’s University. Nominations are now being received for the 2005 INELAM Prize, which is being sponsored by REDOX (http://www.redoxmultimedia.com) Multimedia. INELAM is offered by INEAM in the framework of an agreement between the OAS and IOHE. The 2005 Prize will recognize the efforts made by universities or centers of excellence of Latin America and the Caribbean in the development of Digital Libraries.
